Sony FX3 Overview

Sony FX3A Full-Frame Cinema Camera
Cinematic Capture in a Compact, Streamlined Form
With a compact design for solo shooters, travel applications, or as an ideal B camera, the Sony FX3A borrows from both the Cinema Line and Alpha series of cameras to create an optimized portable cinema camera. The FX3A features all the imaging attributes you’d expect from this class but sports a new lightweight, handheld form with a streamlined profile and a “cage-free” design, offering the ability to secure various accessories directly to the camera body.
Expressive UHD 4K Video Capture
Cinematic Expression_RC
The FX3A’s 12.1MP Exmor R BSI CMOS sensor (10.2MP effective in video mode) is paired with a BIONZ XR processor to achieve UHD 4K video capture with internal 10-bit 4:2:2 sampling or 16-bit raw output. The sensor’s BSI design heightens clarity and sensitivity, with an expandable ISO 80-409,600 range and a greater-than-15-stop dynamic range for working in mixed lighting conditions. Benefiting color and tonal control, the S-Cinetone mode can be used for matching to VENICE, FX9, or FX6 sources, and there is also S-Log3/2 gamut support and 10-bit HLG for simple HDR productions. The sensor and processor also work together to greatly reduce rolling shutter, and the sensor’s design incorporates a Fast Hybrid AF system for intelligent and quick focusing performance and subject tracking.
4K Full-Frame CMOS Exmor R Sensor
Stunning Bokeh_RC
A 12.1MP Exmor R sensor and BIONZ XR processor offer the FX3A true cinematic expression with 10.2MP effective video and 12.1MP still capture. The full-frame sensor provides shallow depth of field looks, impressive bokeh, and reduced rolling shutter artifacts. A base sensitivity of 80-102,400 expands to a lofty 409,600 for impressive low-light capture, and 15+ stops of dynamic range reproduce the nuances of both spectacular exteriors and carefully lit interior scenes with plenty of allowance for color grading.
Beautiful skin tone reproduction and a softer-toned look that complements your VENICE, FX9, or FX6 footage are created using the FX3A’s default S-Cinetone color setting. S-Log-3, S-Gamut3, S-Gamut3.Cine, and 10-bit 4:2:2 support help maintain rich gradation and color matching with the range of Sony Cinema Line cameras, while HLG HDR provides the option of direct HLG playback without the need for grading.

Ergonomic Form for Solo Operation
Essential Controls_RC
The FX3A’s cage-free design enables you to mount ¼”-20 compatible accessories directly on the camera or the detachable handle, saving you the weight and setup/breakdown time of a camera cage. The clustered record button, focus and menu controls, and six assignable buttons all help to enable single-handed control, leaving your left hand free for balancing or controlling your lens.
Tilting Touchscreen LCD
The fold-out 3″ touchscreen LCD has a crisp 2.35MP resolution and can be variously angled for optimal viewing.
Easily Viewable Tally Lights
Expandability_RC
  • Top, front, and rear tally indicators let the operator, talent, and sound person know precisely when the camera is recording.
  • This enables more accurately timed movements and dialogue delivery.

Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G Lens (Sony E)
A Portable, High-Quality Mid-Range Zoom Lens
Bringing a bright, wide maximum aperture to an easy-to-carry form factor, the Sony FE 24-50mm f/2.8 G Lens is a versatile mid-range zoom lens built for everyday mobility. The lens’s outstanding image quality benefits both stills and video shooters, yielding high resolution and smooth bokeh.
Image Quality and Optical Design
Featuring 16 elements in 13 groups, this zoom’s optics have been optimized to provide greater resolution, clarity, and bokeh quality.
  • Bright f/2.8 constant aperture allows users to capture images in dim lighting conditions and with a shallow depth of field. Combined with its 11-blade circular aperture, the lens yields a large and smooth bokeh.
  • Four aspherical elements help minimize spherical aberrations, distortion, and also reduce ‘onion ring’ bokeh, while two extra-low dispersion elements effectively suppress chromatic aberrations and color fringing for greater clarity and color fidelity.
  • The lens boasts strong close-up performance thanks to a minimum focusing distance of 7.1″ and a maximum magnification of 0.33x.
Autofocus
Faster focusing performance, improved close-up shooting, and enhanced control are all benefits of the redesigned focusing system.
  • The autofocus system’s linear motors contribute to improved focusing performance, resulting in a faster, quieter, and more precise AF ideal for both video and stills.
  • Faster AF means improved focusing when working with fast-moving subjects; support is available for shooting at up to 120 fps with the Sony a9 III, full AF is maintained even when shooting stopped down, and focus tracking is possible even when in shooting slow motion 4K 120p and Full HD 240p.
Improved Control and Video Capabilities
Just as camera design has grown to appeal to both photo and video shooters, this lens has also been updated with attributes that specifically appeal to the needs of video shooters.
  • The lens supports Dynamic/Active Mode image stabilization in compatible cameras.
  • Supports the Breathing Compensation function in select cine-line and Alpha cameras.
  • Manual aperture ring can be de-clicked for silent operation, and the zoom smoothness can be adjusted depending on the desired torque.
Compact, Lightweight, and Robust Design

Bringing a bright, f/2.8 maximum aperture to a compact and lightweight optic, the lens is primed for a broad spectrum of use cases and remains a weather-sealed, durable lens for use in trying working conditions.

  • Fit with a manual aperture ring, tactile exposure control is possible. This ring can be de-clicked for smooth and silent iris pulls, or it can be locked in the ‘A’ position for camera-based aperture switching.
  • One programmable focus hold button and a focus mode switch for intuitive focus control.
  • Dust- and moisture-resistant design for use when working in inclement weather conditions. The front lens element has a fluorine coating that repels water, oil, and other contaminants and makes the lens easier to clean.
  • Included lens hood has been redesigned to complement the lens’s sleek design by reducing both its diameter and length.
